Our Story

Cafe Mambo originally opened its doors in 2005, quickly becoming a beloved spot in Paia with its signature dish, the crispy duck fajitas. For years, the restaurant served both locals and visitors, offering a taste of island-inspired flavors in a laid-back atmosphere.

In 2017, the cafe changed ownership, and it continued to adapt as the years went on. However, like many businesses, Cafe Mambo faced unexpected challenges when the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020. The changes in the global landscape and shifts in travel and dining habits took a toll, and the restaurant found itself struggling to keep up with the demands of a new reality.

Then, in 2023, the devastating Maui fires impacted our island, and Cafe Mambo felt the weight of that tragedy. For Cafe Mambo, it was the final push that called for a fresh start.

In 2024, the cafe underwent a dramatic transformation, with a new vision aimed at revitalizing the space. Our new concept seeks to fill a void for Maui locals—a comfortable and welcoming place with quality food you want to eat everyday.

While we’ve held on to the name, everything else is fresh and reimagined. At Cafe Mambo, we’re excited to offer a new experience that resonates with both long-time fans and first-time visitors alike.
